"What Is Love?" an excerpt

"What is love? Love is breathtaking. It steals your breath, your heart, everytime it kisses you. It feels like something's not quite right there, like going to school without your bag, or going to a shop without money. It's magical. It sweeps you off your feet and carries you away. When they kiss you, sparks and fireworks and magic ignite and all you can think is how much you love that person.

"It's simple. Trying to not go over the top, but always going over simply because you them, and could never stop. Love is never changing, except it always is. But it never changes who you are just because someone told you to. Love is keeping a hold on the things they give you and making sure you never let them go. It's trying day and night to not obsess over them. Trying to not worry about where they are, what they're doing, if they're okay.

"Love isn't there. It isn't something that can be placed or held. It's something people earn and deserve.

"Love is looking at the one you love and adore endlessly and never getting bored of it. It's dancing in the kitchen at 3 am to our favourite song in our underwear, and sleeping side by side until noon. It's writing cheesy love letters on post-its and leaving them on each other's coffee mug, or on the steering wheel, or the toilet. It's getting into arguments over dumb things that last for hours and making up. It's arguing over who does the dishes and who clears the table, or who gets to take out the trash. It's watching them in the mirror, appreciating every inch of them.

"They're beautiful, stunning, amazing, and you could never say no to them even if you tried because you could never let them go, even if time said to.

"Love is unexplainable. Love is mysterious. Love is patience, time-consuming, a war zone. But that's what makes 'love' love. Because every up, every down, every date and rose, and tear, and new pillow, and old-new cars, and growing old together are what make us truly human, truly beautiful. Truly capable of love. But the short answer?

"Love is you."
